Terry Nicholas

It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of Terry Nicholas another true son of Clwb Rygbi Cwmtwrch, Terry was born and raised at 32, Heol Gwys, which adjoined The Lamb and now forms part of the clubhouse bar. Terry played at second row for Cwmtwrch, where his good looks and easy manner belied that of your usual second rows of the day, many a discussion with Terry would have had a reply “it’s the only position on the field they could find for me”. Not the biggest of second rows but deft hands and his reading of the game belied his stature, so much so that in 1961/1962 as club captain Terry led Cwm to the league and cup double, and in his usual manner dropped himself in the cup final for the benefit of the team. In 1977 with his wife Janice they took up residence in 32/34 Heol Gwys as Stewardess and Steward of the club, a job they maintained for nearly 20 years and the longest standing employees of the club, Terry thrived on this along with his day job with the Electricity Board, he soon become a typical club Steward with a wide knowledge of matters, and would freely enter into discussions and his usual wicked dry wit could fester an argument among members, especially his cousin Glyn bach if he so wished to. With tap and spiel in hand he maintained the best cellar in the valley, observers would notice his half pint glass nearly always full of Buckleys “amber nectar” for tasting reasons only!! A Life Member he will again be a sad loss to the club and wider Community, Rest in Peace Terry Nicholas you will be missed.
